DIYonline.com Co-Sponsors 2000
Lexington, Kentucky Habitat for Humanity Building Project
LEXINGTON, KY – August 7, 2000 – Company
officials representing DIYonline.com, the InternetÂ’s premier custom
home improvement project design site for Do-It-Yourselfers, today laced up their work boots,
rolled up their sleeves and proudly took part in a groundbreaking and home dedication ceremony for
the sixth annual 2000 WKYT-TV/Lexington Habitat for Humanity Building
Project.
"We are so glad to have the opportunity to participate in this wonderful
project for such a deserving Central Kentucky family," said Fran W.
Anderson, DIYonline.comÂ’s Vice-President of Sales and Marketing.
"DIYonline.com is especially pleased to be a "Golden Hammer/Habitat
Home Team" sponsor of this year's project. We feel that Habitat for
Humanity is an outstanding organization actively involved in the business of giving
deserving, hard-working families a 'hand-up' instead of a 'hand-out'," he added.
The home building project is scheduled to be conducted at the Lexington home of
single mom Lisa Greene and her two children from August 7-21, 2000. The Greenes' brand new home
will contain several unique features to accommodate the special needs of the Greene family. Lisas
17-year-old son, Greg, is confined to a wheelchair and the home will feature handicap accessible
ramps and walkways, an oversized bathroom with special amenities and extra-wide hallways and
doorways.
"We are very excited and happy today," said Lisa Greene during the morning
ceremony. "This is a day that we have dreamed about for a long time and thanks to
Lexington Habitat for Humanity and all the sponsors and volunteers
involved, it's a dream that will now come true."
As part of DIYonline.com's hands-on participation
in this worthwhile project, company personnel will be providing volunteer labor during the
project, donating building materials, and also will construct a handicap-accessible outside deck
and ramp on the home. The deck will be designed utilizing the popular Deck Design software tool
found on the company's web site at www.DIYonline.com. In addition,
event construction managers and volunteers will also be using the state-of-the-art Kitchen and
Bath Design Tools found on the site to design and build the kitchen and bath sections of the new
home.
DIYonline.com hopes to expand upon this initial
participation and sponsorship in conjunction with Lexington Habitat for
Humanity on future projects in the area, which is home to the company's Sales and Marketing
offices. The company is also looking into sponsorship opportunities for other Habitat for Humanity
projects across the nation, including the Tucson, Arizona area, which is home to the company's
corporate headquarters.
