Q: How should I name my project?
Here are some tips to use to create your project name:

  • Do not use the same name more than once; duplicates are not allowed.
  • Use only letters and numbers in the name.

You can delete old projects on the My Projects page by clicking the red delete button to the left of the project name. You can then reuse the name.

Q: I read that would allow me to do "any" remodeling project, but the site currently does not have the project and content in which I am interested.
The current version of our Site is substantial but certainly not complete. We will continue to add new Site features and content, as identified by you, our user. We allow our community and users to drive our direction based on the feedback we receive. Please check the site often, as we will be incorporating a wide breadth of new projects and features that you will enjoy. A good web site is truly a work in progress, continually evolving to the needs of its users!

Q: Which projects can I complete if I have a Macintosh computer?
The operating system on the Macintosh does not support the Java version 1.2.X needed for the Deck, Gazebo, and Fence Designer Tools. It is estimated that in early January, Apple will release their newest operating software OSX, (OS 10), which will enable the use of these design tools. In addition, Sprinkler Designer will not work on a Macintosh since it is a Windows executable file. We will keep you informed on our web site as we learn of this release or other changes that affect our Design Tools and Macintosh systems.

We recommend using Internet Explorer for Macintosh with our other design tools, which can be downloaded from We do not recommend using Netscape Navigator for the Macintosh for any of the Designer Tools, except the Calculators.

Q: What additional applications do I need to have on my computer to use the Design Tools?
The additional applications needed to use our Design Tools can be downloaded from a link on our Site Resources page:
  • Our site is viewed best using the latest version of either Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
  • Macromedia Flash 4
    • Flash 4 is necessary to use our calculators. Older versions of Flash will not work properly with our site.
  • JAVA 1.2.x
    • Java 1.2 is required to use many of our design tools. Older versions of Java may not work properly with our site. Unfortunately, Java 1.2 is not yet available for Macintosh users.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader is necessary to view our Specification Kits. Older versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader may not work properly.
Q: I'm using AOL, and cannot view my report. When I click on the "View Report" button, all that I see is a white screen. I have downloaded Adobe Acrobat from the link provided on your Site Resources page. Why do I get a message box entitled "Error Locating Object Handler"? Inside this message box it says, "There is no viewer available for the type of object you are trying to open. Do you want to go to this location to download a viewer for this type of object?" It only tells me that the possible location of the viewer is Microsoft ActiveX Gallery.
To configure AOL to use Adobe Acrobat's 4.0 viewer as a helper application:
  1. Start your Acrobat 4.0 viewer.
  2. Choose File > Preferences > General.
  3. Deselect Web Browser Integration in the Options section and then click OK.
  4. Exit from the Acrobat 4.0 viewer.
  5. Restart AOL.
The next time you select the "View Report" button, a dialog box will appear that asks what you would like to do with the file. Select "Open this file from its current location". AOL will then open the report in your Adobe Acrobat viewer as a helper application.

Q: Why can't I print out my design's specification worksheet?
There are several possibilities that might cause you to have a problem printing. Please visit for help troubleshooting your printing issue.
