Palm sander
Small, electric finish sander sized to be held by one hand.

Peeling
The detachment of paint from the surface in ribbons or sheets. Like flaking, the result of loss of adhesion.

Piers
Connect posts to footings.

Pigment
Dyes used in manufacturing vinyl wallcoverings.

Pilot
The section of a router bit that guides it along a piece of stock.

Pipe bender
A tightly coiled spring that bends copper pipe without crimping.

Pipe clamp
A clamp with one fixed jaw and one sliding and tightening jaw.

Pipe cutter
A tool that looks like a clamp with a cutting wheel to cut pipe.

Pipe wrench
A wrench with large, serrated jaws to loosen and tighten pipe joints.

Plane
A handheld woodworking tool used to shave and smooth wood.

Plasterer's rake
This tool has tines along one edge for making striations or "scratches" in new mortar.

Plate
A horizontal framing member lying flat that forms the top or bottom of a wall frame.

Pliers
Scissors-like tool with gripping jaws on one end of the joint and handles on the other.

Plumb bob
A weight suspended by a sturdy cord used to find out if a structure is plumb (perfectly vertical).

Plunger
A long-handled tool with a large-volume suction cup at one end, used to clear clogged drains and toilets

Pneumatic stapler
A stapler powered by compressed air, used for roofing or cabinet assembly.

Posts
Boards, mostly 4x4 that support the beams.

Power drill
An electric tool used with bits to drill cylindrical holes of different sizes in wood or metal.

Prepasted
Wallpaper that already has paste on the backing and which can be activated by soaking in water.

Primer
A product applied to the wall before hanging wallpaper.

Pry bar
A long metal bar with a chisel-shaped end for separating objects.
