Fabric-backed wallcoverings
An open-weave fabric bonded to the back of vinyl wallcovering.

Face of board
The wider surface of a board which will show on the finished project.

Fascia
Boards that are horizontal trim covering the joists.

Fence
A device that is attached to a power tool surface to guide stock, or the part of a tool that guides it along the edge of the stock.

Figure
The pattern formed by wood grain.

File
Piece of metal with sharp grooves cut into it, used for grinding down metal.

Finishing trowel
A flat metal trowel with a wooden handle for smoothing wet concrete.

Flat bar
Type of pry bar that is flat in cross section, used for slipping under and prying apart materials without damaging them.

Flat paint
A soft finish that hides irregularities, but is not as washable as gloss or semi-gloss.

Flocked
A three-dimensional effect on wallcoverings made by fine fibers being adhered to a slow-drying paint on the surface of the paper.

Flooring chisel
A broad-bladed chisel used for removing flooring materials, such as sheet vinyl.

Floor knife
A knife with a short, strong, curved blade, used to cut flooring sheet materials.

Flux brush
A small, stiff-bristled, disposable brush used to spread flux onto parts to be soldered.

Focal point
Either the wall facing the room's traffic flow, or the first wall you see upon entering a room.

Footings
Foundation of the deck, anchors the deck.

Forstner bit
Drill bit designed to make very exacting, smooth-sided, flat-bottomed holes in wood.

Framing square
A flat, L-shaped metal ruler with sides marked in inches for laying out angles and cuts.

Funnel
A plastic or metal cone tapering to a long tube, used to prevent spilling while pouring a liquid.
